Baton Twirlling With Mrs. Yoda

ICT!
Due to a nagging neck injury suffered many years ago, my wife has never been able to play golf. Nevertheless, if you watch her make only one pass through the ball on the practice tee -- she does this about once every ten years! -- you see a perfect golf motion.

I'll never forget the first shot she hit. After completely missing the ball the first couple of times, she hit a perfect shot: compressed, well flighted, and with a slight draw at the end.

Her secret?

She was a majorette in high school, and she related the golf swing to her baton twirling . . .

Yoda: Honey, you've never swung a golf club in your life. Where did you learn that motion?

Mrs. Yoda:
It's easy . . . Ball-thumb.

Y: Ball-thumb??

MY: The ball of the baton follows the left thumb.

Y: But, you're right-handed.

MY: Of course I am, you green dummy, but if I were twirling left-handed, it would work the same way.

Y: So, the release motion in golf is just a left-handed baton twirl?

MY: Just get your students to make that motion, and they'll do fine. Now, where are you taking me for dinner?

Whew! At last! The Flail in it's most simple terms! Please pass along my genuine appreciation from one teacher to another, for making the complex so simple!
