Today on the range it came to me that if I open my stance, my take away feels more natural to me and it feels like I have more room and freedom to drive through with the right side.
Is it just me? I'm wondering why this is....
Trig,
The Stance Line affects only the Pivot Motion. By assuming an Open Stance (10-5-B), you have automatically created a Delayed Pivot (10-12-C):
1. This somewhat restricts your Body Motion in the Backstroke and may well be helping you to better sense your Right Forearm Takeaway.
2. It also assists you in stopping your Hands at the Top of the Straight Line Delivery Path (10-23-A) -- instead of going all the way to the End (10-23-C) -- and hence assists you in the Hitter's Drive Loading (10-19-A).
3. Finally, the freedom you Feel to Drive through the Ball from the Open Stance is entirely consistent with the Delayed Pivot's free Follow-Through. This is in stark contrast to the Closed Stance (10-5-C) and its Short Pivot (10-12-B) that creates a restricted Follow-Through.
Three great Hitters of the last thirty years are Lee Trevino, Larry Nelson and Craig Stadler. It may be more than coincidental that all three played -- and still do play -- from Open Stances.
