G-Mac's Follow-Through / Golf Magazine / May 2011

So, I'm finally getting around to opening the latest Golf Magazine (May 2011), and as usual, I turn to the Contents (page 9 in this edition). There I find a posed, page-length photo of Graeme McDowell illustrating the feature article, Master the Scoring Zone.

One look at those alignments, and I thought to myself, "Good thing he doesn't actually do this. Otherwise, there would be at least one less piece of silver on his mantle!".

Ten minutes later, reading the article itself, I encountered two photos (on page 107) posted side-by-side. One was labeled Don't Do This! and the other was labeled Do This! Guess which one was featured on their Contents page?

:laughing9

The various golf magazines have been doing a pretty good job of late, at least in my opinion. They really are trying. Still, I found this snafu telling . . .

Did the magazine's graphic folk make a mistake? From their vantage point, I think not: You can see a lot more of G-Mac's face in the Don't! photo than you can in the Do! And, after all, isn't that what they paid for? Isn't that what's most important? I'm quite sure they thought, "Who in the world is going to notice something less than ideal alignments, even if we do feature it on the Contents page?"

Caveat emptor!

Lynn, the funny thing bout it is that you will have people trying to achieve those positions and hitting duck hooks etc and wondering why! thank god for proper alignments aka TGM

Besides weak dying quails, I left rabid duck hooks at the Swamp after Lynn's instruction. Balance, Pivot, Proper Grip, Mid-Body Hands, Standard Address Stationary head, Turned Shoulder Plane and FLAIL BABY, FLAIL! :hello2:

Interesting to see your observation on the mag., Yoda. I recently started a FREE subscription to a magazine that has been around a long time. Reading some of the "tips" made me immediately understand why I love this site. Here we find the Whys and Wherefores. We are shown the philosophy, the art, the science and the math that makes up this wonderful game.
Now, when the magazine comes in the mail, I peruse it and pass it on to some other unsuspecting sot and hope they read it cover to cover for the next time we tee it up. I'm working on replenishing the retirement fund.

Great plan Jerry! That stuff in the mags is rot, for the most part. Best to use it to your financial advantage.

You are a genius, JG!

What a subtle mind. You could make multiple copies of the article at school and send them to your team's opponents "in the spirit of good sportsmanship" wink, wink, and really mess up some people. Too sinister? :sad2:

A month later you could send them Kevin's card!

I'm done having those slugs send cabs for me so I'd be writing checks at the end of the round. Heck, last fall two of them walked off after 5 holes of being 5 down to me. Payback is tough.
