Travelers Championship / PGA TOUR / June 25-28, 2009
The PGA TOUR brethren tee off Thursday at TPC River Highlands in Cromwell, Connecticut. As usual, the TOUR establishes its 'early-late' tee times for Thursday and its opposite for Friday. All's fair, right? Well, most of the time!

For the counterpoint, we won't soon forget the first 36 holes of the 2009 U.S. Open at Bethpage Black and the 'early' Thursday and 'late' Friday rain deluges. Line-after-line of storm cells caused an abrupt end to all play at 10:16 a.m. Thursday. The 'early' times were hammered , and the 'late' times never made it out of the box . For the 'lates', this made for a rain-free Friday afternoon start and an early rain-free, 36-hole Saturday morning finish . The 'early' Thursday times didn't begin their second round until Saturday afternoon. By which time, the rains had started again.

Read that again -- slowly -- and realize that the Thursday 'late' crowd enjoyed the "luck of the draw" and a rain-free, Monday finish golf tournament.

A-n-y-way . . .

Early-rising Traveler's fans will find Sergio Garcia, Brian Gay and Anthony Kim teeing off #1 at 7:42 a.m. In broadcast-speak, it's an "attractive group", but yawn -- -- don't expect a thundering herd of gallery-ites.

On Friday, you can sleep in: The same group goes off 'late' at 12:52 p.m., only now with hundreds, even thousands, of their fans in tow.

The au courant can arrive late Thursday:

Lucas Glover, 2009 U.S. Open Champion, tees off #1 at 1:03 p.m., a time somewhere between fan visits to the hot dog stand and the arrival of the litter brigade. The bright-eyed can catch him Friday off #10 at 7:53 a.m.

The PGA TOUR.

Rain or shine . . . Gotta love it!

live scoring.

BG just dropped a shot on the par 5 6th (he started from the 10th) but is still well placed.

Friday chip in on 6
I was at the Traveler's on Friday but only got to see Brian for a couple of holes. He had an incredible chip in on the par 5 sixth hole. He missed the green right on his 3rd shot. I didn't see exactally how he got there because Anthony Kim went for the green in 2 and nearly clobbered Stuart Appleby on the 7th tee. The commotion over there had most of the crowd's attention. Brian's ball kicked right off the green to a low area that gets a lot of spectator traffic and is surrounded by pines. The green is elevated there and the green sloped away from him. He landed is ball just on the fringe and it rolled down the slope and into the cup for a birdie. It trumped Kim's bridie from the 7th tee box and Sergio's routine hit the green in regulation and one putt birdie.

Geared Up For Movin' Day
BG completed his weather-suspended second round this morning, scoring 1-under for his last five holes and a 2-under 68 for the round. He is at 66-68=134 (-6 / T-17) and tees off at noon in today's third round.

Meanwhile, Jay Williamson completed both his rounds yesterday, firing 67-68=135 (-5), good for T-30. He has already begun his third round today and is even par through #1. In a tournament Golfweek later labeled as one of the most exciting events of the year, Jay lost the 2007 Travelers in a playoff with Hunter Mahan. The duo had lapped the field (third place was a distant four strokes away), and only Hunter's consecutive birdies on the 18th (the 72nd in regulation and the 1st in the playoff) denied Jay the victory.

In yesterday's TV coverage Bobby Clampett talked about BG's swing changes motivated by Homer Kelley's Golfing Machine...Bobby said that BG read the book from cover to cover several times and under Lynn Blake's coaching has made his remarkable swing changes over a 2 year period. Great plug for TGM,LBG,BG and Mr. Yoda

Thanks for picking up on this, hg.

Mrs. Yoda and I were at dinner with friends last night at Atlanta CC, and our table just happened to be a short distance away from one of the two large screen televisions in the room. The TV was tuned to The Golf Channel's replay of the round -- -- and when Bobby made his 'multiple mention', it made for a fun time and 'high fives' all 'round!
